ABOUT THE SHOW

This 2010 Pulitzer Prize finalist is a drop-kicking, body-slamming, balls-out theatrical happening set in the larger-than-life world of professional wrestling. Macedonio “Mace” Guerra plays the fall-guy for mega-successful “THE” Wrestling League, losing again and again to the impossibly charismatic champ Chad Deity. When Mace discovers a young Indian-American Brooklyn kid whose charisma rivals that of Chad’s, Mace decides to get him a job in the company. Only problem is, the boss has a very specific plan for the duo: put them onscreen as terrorists. The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity is a kick-ass comedy for the Obama-age. In wrestling, as in life, it’s tough to voice your own identity over the roar of the crowd.

NOTE: The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity special effects include the use of a fog machine and strobe lighting.

PRAISE FOR THE SHOW

Chad Deity is not a wrestling play per se; it is a morality play”Washington Post

“An adrenaline rush!” –
Washington Post

“Delightful physicality and freewheeling theatricality!” –
Washington Post

“Surprisingly philosophical Washington City Paper

“Technically astonishing!”Washington City Paper

“A heart-stopping, action packed, raw and gritty story!” – DC Metro Theatre Arts

“A culturally explosive knockout!”
DC Metro Theatre Arts

“Even if the world of professional wrestling is not your cup of tea — or should I say can of beer…you’ll find yourself engaged by this 4th wall busting production.”
MD Theatre Guide

“A tale of identity, race, and consumerism wrapped in sparkly Lycra muscle grip!”
Brightest Young Things

“Woolly is doing some of the most innovative, interesting, and audience-grabbing feats with their technology. More people need to see this.”
Brightest Young Things

“Long title, great show. Go see it. Seriously.”
Brightest Young Things

“A scathing satire with dialogue as sharp and hard-hitting as its characters’ toughest punches, this fresh piece of comic theater thrusts the gaudy world of TV wrestling under the spotlight while tackling serious American hypocrisies about race and social mobility in the process.”Georgetown Voice

“The energy that radiates from The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Kristoffer Diaz’s crazy-like-a-fox comedy about television wrestling, is the real thing. This delightfully muscular production courses with the vital sap of an able-bodied satire enjoying a rollicking love-hate affair with its subject.” – The New York Times

“The delicious crackle and pop of a galloping, honest-to-God, all-American satire.”
The New York Times

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Kristoffer Diaz‟s vibrant play set in the wacky world of professional wrestling, seems tailor-made for people who find contemporary drama dull, staid and more or less irrelevant. This satirical work leaps out of the proscenium frame at every opportunity, exhorting, drop-kicking and body-slamming its way into an immediacy that is more familiar to sporting events and rap concerts than to a traditional night of theater.” – The Los Angeles Times

“Thrillingly outlandish spectacle” The Los Angeles Times

“Juicy, knockout new play” The Chicago Tribune

“Thrilling entry into the brave new world of bright lights, racial complexities and hot new plays.” The Chicago Tribune
